Capitol Corridor and San Joaquins Connecting Buses to Begin Serving Vallejo Transit Center Stop on March 29

Vallejo, CA – On Monday, March 29, 2021, the Petaluma and Vallejo Thruway Amtrak Bus Service will serve the Vallejo Transit Center (VTC). Bus routes using the VTC are managed by the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA) and the San Joaquins Joint Powers Authority (SJJPA), both of which partner with Amtrak to operate their respective services. The stop move is in conjunction with the Capitol Corridor’s schedule change also effective Monday. The new schedule continues their reduced, temporary frequency of eight weekday round trips and five on weekends due to COVID, and includes some adjustments in departure times and a shift in trains to better match current customer demand, improve transit connections, and offer more predictable departure times.

Previously, Capitol Corridor and San Joaquins buses stopped at the SolTrans Curtola Park and Ride Hub, which only allowed for connection to one of SolTrans local routes and two SolanoExpress Lines. The new stop will be in the VTC extension on York Street. The two Amtrak-operated services are the first to move to the new stop since the project completion in December 2020. The York St. Improvement Project has expanded VTC east along York Street by adding 5 new bus stops and enhance the downtown streetscape between Sacramento Street and Marin Street.

“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Amtrak, the Capitol Corridor, and the San Joaquins. This will vastly improve connectivity for our community and beyond. The Vallejo Transit Center also provides connections to Greyhound, Napa Vine and the Vallejo Ferry is just across the street. The travel possibilities from VTC have greatly increased now that Amtrak has joined.” Said SolTrans Executive Director Beth Kranda.
