FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Vallejo, CA –Solano County Transit (SolTrans) with Solano Transportation Authority (STA) and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) will virtually” unveil the York Street Improvement Project. The project has expanded the Vallejo Transit Center (VTC) east along York Street by adding 5 new bus stops and enhance the downtown streetscape between Sacramento Street and Marin Street.

SolTrans hopes the public will join them in celebrating this happy occasion. The event will be released virtually at 11a.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, but anyone can access the link any time after the release and enjoy the ceremony.

The ceremony will include speakers from all the partners involved, footage of the construction process and a breakdance performance from a local group, the V-Town Tribe. The expansion includes bus shelters, decorative and ornamental fencing and benches, trees, and shade sails to complement the original transit center.

MTC Executive Director Therese McMillan said of the York St. Improvement Project, “Vallejo like so many other places around the world has been temporary interrupted by the pandemic, but the York St. improvements help to position Vallejo, in a way, to bounce back BIG!”

SolTrans is working with Vallejo Community Arts Foundation (VCAF) on a participatory and community constructed sculptor process to connect community members to public art. For more information about the project please visit: https://www.vallejoarts.org.

This expansion is funded by a combination of efforts and partnerships with California Transportation Commission, California State Transportation Agency, California Department of Transportation, MTC, STA and the City of Vallejo.
