NEWS RELEASE
March 7, 2024

A Green Celebration for St. Patrick’s Day

Solano County, CA – Solano County Transit (SolTrans) will host its 8th installment of Second Friday Events, taking place on March 8, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. at the Vallejo Transit Center. This month’s festivities celebrate all things green, like SolTrans’ green initiatives in transportation, Battery Electric Buses, and in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.

Since its inception in August 2023, the Second Friday Event has grown into a favorite community tradition, providing a platform for local organizations to engage with residents and offer valuable resources. Held rain or shine at the centrally located Vallejo Transit Center, the event has become a source of connectivity and support for the community.

Past Second Friday Events have hosted special guests from Solano Mobility, Leaven Kids, Florence Douglas Senior Center, and Catholic Charities of Yolo-Solano. Staff from SolTrans are always on hand to address any transit-related inquiries. Attendees are encouraged to join in the fun by dressing up in the theme of the day, adding an extra splash of color and cheer to the occasion.

“We are thrilled to continue our mission of fostering community connections and providing vital resources through our Second Friday Events,” said Mandi Renshaw Planning and Marketing Manager. “Each month, we strive to create an inclusive and welcoming environment where residents can come together, learn, and celebrate.”

One such success story comes from Catholic Charities of Yolo-Solano, who have utilized the platform to reach over 160 individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. Through their participation, attendees have gained access to crucial information about programs like CalFresh (SNAP) and have received essential provisions from their Client Choice Food Pantry.

“All local community organizations are invited to join us in this collaborative effort to support our community,” added Mandi. “If your organization would like to participate in future events, we encourage you to sign up through our online form.”
