Prepare yourself for an adventure in The Golden City. No need to worry about bustling and congested traffic since you can take the Red Line down to the BART station in El Cerrito to kickstart your journey. Don’t feel like commuting so far on a bus? We’ve got you covered; another viable option for travel is to cruise the waters using the Vallejo Ferry. The ferry building is located within a short walk away from the Vallejo Transit Center, although Route 5 can take you right in front of the ticket office. Regardless of what transportation you choose in order to get to San Francisco, there are a number of exciting events coming up that include: Off the Grid, the San Francisco Anime Festival & Cosplay, After Dark Events, and BigPicture Night Life at the California Academy of Sciences.  

Off the Grid is the perfect event for food fanatics, music lovers, and art enthusiasts. Lasting all summer until October 25th, Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture is hosting Off the Grid every Friday from 5PM until 10 PM. This event is packed with gourmet food vendors that will undoubtedly satisfy your appetite, taste buds, and cravings. Food trucks serve all kinds of flavorful dishes including Southern-style barbeque, Asian ‘baos,’ sisig burritos, and even lobster-filled grilled cheese sandwiches. Best of all, the event also offers free music and art which can serve as a side to the amazing meals you’ll be eating.

Coming up on July 20th is the San Francisco Anime Festival & Cosplay. This is a free event that will be hosted in Japantown which will last from 11AM until 4PM. There will be numerous contests with many prizes to win and interactive games to participate in. Learn more about Japanese pop culture while seeing the creative costumes that people from all over the Bay Area have worked hard on and explore the shops and restaurants in the nearby Japan Center Malls.

Fun Fact: In the 1960s, an illustrator by the name of Osamu Tezuka transformed his manga (Japanese comics and cartooning) into anime and later became known as the father of anime. 

After Dark Events happens every Thursday from 6PM to 10PM and is a one of a kind experience in the Exploratorium on Pier 15. The theme varies weekly and is packed with music, friendly company, and unique activities in the dark. It’s a fun, intriguing, and exciting event that a large group of adult friends can enjoy. Grab a drink and become immersed in over 650 interactive exhibits exploring perception, art, and science.

BigPicture Night Life at the California Academy of Sciences begins at 6 PM. The event that encompasses the field of nature will portray images taken by some of the greatest nature photographers, showing the beauty of life on Earth. Along with the photography exhibit, there will also be an award ceremony, a presentation, a planetarium show, and much more to check out.
