Don’t wait for New Years to make resolutions for a fit and healthy life, start now! There should be no more excuses because there are a variety of nearby activities ranging from gyms, skateparks, swimming pools, dance classes, and hiking trails, and to get your heart pumping and your fitness journey started. We can take you to all of these places and soon enough, you’ll be on your way to achieving the goals you set in hopes of promising results.

Studies have shown that fitness and health have many benefits to your mental and physical well-being. One of the simplest ways to start being active is at the gym, where you can get your heart rate going. Dumbbells, kettlebells, treadmills, ellipticals, squat bars, yoga mats, and other machines are all suitable to target specific muscles and give you a full workout. Route 1 and Route 2 can take you to Planet Fitness and the Yellow Line can bring you straight to Benicia Fitness. Although getting to the gym can be difficult and challenging, there is no better time than now to start new habits. You’ll thank us in the future for pushing you towards a healthier lifestyle.

If the gym isn’t suitable for you, then explore the outdoors to get your fitness on. Taking Route 7A or Route 7B will take you to Wardlaw Park, the perfect spot to skateboard, have some fun, and be active all at the same time and place. There are numerous opportunities for cardio and exercise with a skatepark, basketball courts, and multi use fields available.

Route 6 can bring you to Cuban Rhythm and Rumba, a Vallejo dance studio that has Cuban salsa instruction, Rumba, Latin workouts, Contemporary, Salsa-Bachata-Merengue workouts and more. This variation of a workout is not only fun, but it is also educational since you’re able to learn about Cuban culture. Dancing is a great way to channel your inner artistic side and to get a good sweat going.

Get back to the basics and go for a hike. Going outdoors, absorbing some vitamin D, and enjoying nature all come with benefits that promote longevity. Hiking is a combination of two of the simplest antidepressants, exercise and nature. Being surrounded by nature helps to trigger the release of serotonin, dopamine, and GABA. In other words, an active way of life is a happy way of life!
