Meet the Team: Robert Saunders

The New Transdev General Manager for SolTrans!

We’re excited to introduce Robert “Bob” Saunders, the new General Manager at Transdev, the company behind the operations and maintenance of SolTrans buses. Bob brings a wealth of experience and passion to his new role, and we can’t wait for you to meet him.

Originally from Boston, Bob’s journey has taken him across the country—spending time in Colorado, Pennsylvania, and New York—before finally settling in California. A long-time resident of Solano County, Bob’s story is one of transformation. He originally worked as a flooring contractor but found his calling in public transit during the 2008 housing crisis. With 15years of transit experience, Bob has been a key player in shaping the systems we rely on today.

Before joining the SolTrans/Transdev team in Vallejo, Bob served as the General Manager of Oakland/East Bay Paratransit, where he successfully improved staffing and boosted on-time performance. Living in Vacaville, Bob always dreamed of working closer to home, and now, with his new role in Vallejo, that dream has come true.

Bob’s Vision for SolTrans

Bob is laser-focused on making big improvements. His top priorities include streamlining driver training and enhancing driver safety, all aimed at boosting SolTrans’ on-time performance. One of his exciting initiatives is the creation of more behind-the-wheel trainers and an in-house DMV certification program to speed up the driver training process. Bob also plans to roll out a stronger continuing education program for current drivers, ensuring they stay up to date on safety protocols and laws. All of this is part of his mission to ensure SolTrans riders enjoy reliable, timely service everyday.

He’s eager to meet both riders and drivers and get first hand insight into the routes and experiences that shape our community’s transit system.
