Meet the Team: Milan Atkinson
Milan Atkinson joined the SolTrans team in July 2024 as the General Services Manager, when her predecessor retired. Milan brings fresh insights and a wealth of experience from her diverse career in financial technology and rental car fleet management. Milan has a deep connection to public transit, shaped by her upbringing in the Bay Area. Her father was even a bus driver in Stockton. She grew up riding BART and AC Transit—a habit she continues today.
Milan has fond memories of taking bus trips around Vallejo and to Marine World (now Six Flags Discovery Kingdom)with family. These experiences sparked her appreciation for public transit and her passion for enhancing the rider experience.
In her role at SolTrans, Milan oversees facilities, security, safety, real estate, and other critical assets. She thrives on the variety her work offers, with each day presenting a new challenge. One of her key projects is creating a comprehensive database of SolTrans’ physical assets, streamlining maintenance and repair tracking for improved efficiency.
Milan is also playing a pivotal role in advancing major SolTrans initiatives, including:
- The Sereno Transit Center Beautification Project
- The Electrification Infrastructure Project at SolTrans’ operations and maintenance facility, paving the way for a sustainable electric bus fleet
- The Demolition Project at the same facility, preparing for future expansion of SolTrans’ operations
Adjusting to a smaller team has been a new experience for Milan, but she has embraced the opportunity to make a meaningful impact. She’s also dedicating time to learning SolTrans’ bus routes and stops, as these are integral to her responsibilities. Most Fridays, you’ll find her riding the buses, engaging with riders, and identifying ways to improve their transit experience.
Outside of work, Milan is an avid hiker who loves exploring the Bay Area’s stunning trails and scenic vistas. If you spot her on a bus or at the Vallejo Transit Center, don’t hesitate to say hello! She’s eager to hear your ideas on how SolTrans can better serve the community.
