Meet the Team: Bisi Ibrahim

Bisi Ibrahim, the Innovation and Technology Manager at SolTrans, is helping to guide how technology powers SolTrans. Like many in the industry, Bisi’s journey didn’t begin with transit—but her story is one of growth, curiosity and transformation.

Bisi is a Stanford graduate, where she earned a degree in Human Biology while diving deep into computer science. Public transit was not on her radar and she originally planned to go into Medicine or Bio Tech. However, Bisi spent much of her early career exploring vastly different professions. A former rugby powerhouse, Bisi played for Stanford, the U.S. Women’s Development Team and in the Women’s Professional League in Berkeley. Before joining SolTrans, she was also a healthcare and financial consultant, but by 2016, Bisi felt it was time to retire from sports and consulting and seek a new direction. That’s when SolTrans came knocking.

At first, she hesitated—public transit didn’t seem like the right fit, especially since, by her own admission, she’s “directionally challenged”— ironic for someone guiding transit innovation However, her skillset was exactly what SolTrans needed, as she takes her perceived limits and hurdles and her own rider perspective to understand and provide solutions for the anxiety transit can sometimes elicit..

Merging Tech, Data, and Community

Bisi’s background in healthcare helped her make an immediate impact in paratransit and community relations. She quickly became a vital connector, ensuring paratransit services better supported riders' unique needs. But it wasn’t long before her tech skills came into play. SolTrans needed someone to dig into its data and improve operational efficiency—and Bisi delivered.

By leveraging data and automating systems, she’s freed up valuable resources, allowing SolTrans to better understand the needs of its riders. This has helped the agency enhance its services and become more agile in responding to rider demands.

A Tech-Fueled Vision for the Future

As the Innovation and Technology Manager, Bisi is constantly pushing the envelope. Her role involves managing relationships with SolTrans’ tech vendors, making sure every tool and system is optimized to improve the rider experience—something that excites her most. One of her major projects is introducing dynamic bus bays at the main transit terminals, a cutting-edge solution that will streamline bus movements and help riders get where they’re going faster and more efficiently.

She’s also deeply involved in SolTrans’ transition to a greener future. Bisi is working behind the scenes on the new electric buses set to arrive soon, all part of SolTrans’ zero-emissions initiative. Her work extends beyond what riders see, too. For example, she manages the Automated Passenger Counters (APCs)—a critical tech that tracks how many riders are using the system, informing better route and schedule planning. Every three years, SolTrans has to recertify its APC data with the Federal Transit Administration, and Bisi’s got that covered too.
