Volunteering is a great way for you to give back to the community. There are a lot of organizations and causes around Solano County that would benefit from your participation, time, and effort. Change in the world around all starts at the local level, so let us take you along and bring you to those who need your assistance the most.

Faith Food Fridays

The organization provides boxes filled with clothes, hygiene products, food, and more to people in need around Vallejo. The volunteering opportunity revolves around facilitating the donation items and or assisting in the distribution of the boxes. In addition, they also host a weekly Bible study group on Wednesdays from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. Faith Food Fridays is located on 826 Solano Avenue, which is served by Route 4. For your convenience, we’ve attached their tentative schedule below:

  • Mon. 9:30AM – 3:00PM (Prep)
  • Tues. 9:00AM – 2:00PM (distribution from 11:00AM – 2:00PM)
  • Wed. 9:00AM – 5:00PM
  • Thurs. 8:30AM – 5:00PM (Food Bank pick-up & Prep)
  • Fri. 9:00AM – 6:00PM (distribution from 2:00PM – 5:00PM)

Volunteering at Libraries

The libraries in Solano County are accepting volunteers all year round. As a volunteer librarian assistant, you’ll be responsible for restocking books, offer ideas to improve the library, write book reviews, suggest new material to be inputted into their database, and more. Hours will vary depending on individual schedules. This opportunity would provide you with useful experiences that you’ll be able to utilize at future jobs and can even serve as a supplement to your resumé. To learn more about this opportunity, you can speak to the local librarians at certain locations. Route 7B will take you to Vallejo’s Springstowne Library while the Yellow Line can bring to the Benicia Library.

Graffiti: Report, Remove, Volunteer

The city of Vallejo’s Maintenance Division has a truck that is sent out to specifically respond to vandalism reports from the public. There are opportunities for people to volunteer and be apart of the process that helps to remove graffiti or tags around the city. If you want to help and keep the city clean, consider volunteering with Vallejo’s Maintenance Division where you can participate in graffiti removal. Locations and times vary since the Maintenance Division must provide the necessary removal equipment for volunteers, but for more information, call (707) 648-5235.

Fun Fact: According to the Corporation of National and Community Service, the U.S. Census Bureau and the Center for Disease Control found that states with a high volunteer rate also have lower rates of mortality and incidences of heart disease.
