Mobile Apps for Public Transit

The rise of the smartphone has brought convenience to our fingertips. Rides, food, and instant gratification can all be delivered to our doorsteps via our favorite mobile apps. We’ve witnessed navigation apps replace physical maps and mobile payment apps replace wallets. Now, apps like Token Transit are replacing bus passes and streamlining commutes.

The Token Transit mobile app is one of the newest mobile payment methods meant for public transit. Token Transit is a free app that allows riders to purchase passes for themselves, or for someone else, once they’ve downloaded the app and entered an acceptable payment method. The Token Transit app also acts as a wallet for your passes, so you never have to worry about losing them.

To welcome new users to Token Transit, SolTrans is offering 50% off local passes for the month of December when you buy them through the Token Transit app. If you’re wondering whether this app is for you, next month is the best time to give it a shot. You’ll discover whether mobile payment methods are for you and save money along the way.

Another contactless payment option is Clipper. Clipper is accepted on buses, BART, ferries, and trains throughout the Bay Area. By adding value to your Clipper card up front, you’ll never have to worry about coming up with the exact amount for fare. You even have the option of registering your card online and setting up automatic reload. This way, you’ll always have enough for your rides.

Public transit is moving toward contactless payment to keep up with the ways of our modern world. So, whether you like having your commute streamlined or prefer to keep cash on you, mobile payment apps are becoming the new norm.
