Helping Others This Holiday

Giving a helping hand for the holidays

Christmas is just around the corner and many of us have calendars full of potlucks, white elephants, and company parties. Yet, traditions such as these don’t exist for everyone, and it may be easy to forget that amidst all the holiday fun. This year, consider giving the unexpected and donate your time to a charity or nonprofit this season.

To do our part, SolTrans partnered with the Vallejo Chamber of Commerce and Fighting Back Partnership to bring holiday cheer to underprivileged youth. During our first-ever “Stuff the Bus” campaign, members of the community dropped off unwrapped gifts to the Vallejo Transit Center (VTC) and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) facility to provide holiday gifts for children of all ages.

Christmas in Vallejo is 100% volunteer-run and holds a Christmas brunch and toy giveaway every year for families in need. They’re one of the many organizations in Vallejo that couldn’t operate without help from our community members.

The Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano brings fresh produce and non-perishable items to families in need. This organization delivers food directly to their clients and is always in search of good help.

Another way to help families when they need it most is through Vallejo Kaiser Hospice. It takes a special person to be there for someone near the end of their life but there are many ways in which you can help. Our Route 5 brings you closer to someone in need.

The Arc Solano serves individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. They are in search of volunteers who can help with literacy tutoring, art projects, special events, and more.

These are only a handful of ideas, but you can read more about how you can give your community a hand.
